Operating Principles

  • A trade-in order cannot be placed without a device purchase order.

  • Each trade-in is tied to a single device purchase; multiple trade-ins require multiple purchase orders. 

  • Trade-in value is confirmed only after Asurion inspects and validates the device condition.

  • Final credit is applied to the customer’s monthly billing, spread across multiple billing cycles. This structure enhances stickiness by encouraging customers to remain engaged.

Customer Experience

1. Customer Starts on the Product Page
When browsing a new device, the customer sees the option to trade in their existing device. With a few quick questions answered, they receive an instant estimated trade-in value.

2. Customer Sends Device
A prepaid shipping label is provided by Asurion, keeping the process simple and hassle-free for both customer and brand.
3. Device Evaluation
Asurion inspects the device to confirm its final value.

4. Credits Applied
The confirmed amount is applied as account credits after the customer agrees to proceed, often distributed across multiple months to drive retention.

Trade-In cancellation

The Trade-In request is submitted to Asurion only once the device cancellation window closes. Users and agents can cancel the trade-in request before the request is submitted to Asurion.  

Device inspection by Asurion

Asurion inspects the trade-in device and makes an offer based on its condition. If the offer matches or exceeds the estimated value, Asurion automatically accepts and processes the Trade-In. If the offer is lower, the customer must choose to either accept or decline it. If the offer is accepted, Asurion processes the trade-in credit, which is then submitted through the payment gateway. If the offer is declined or canceled, the device is returned to the customer.
